Shoofly Ancestor Pattern Necklace

Handmade Shoofly Pendant with a Macrame Necklace

In order to guide our Ancestors to freedom during the underground railroad, they would sow patterns into quilts. Each pattern had a specific meaning so when you come across that pattern it would tell you what you need to know in that area to continue the path to freedom.

The Shoofly pattern was the pattern to let you know there was a safe space/person near by that could assist you.

I created these pieces to help keep the history alive but these pieces can also be totem pieces that you can carry with you to help assist you on your journey and also help to connect you to our sacred history.

The pendant on this piece has been hand molded and hand painted. The Necklace of this piece was macramed. This piece is 13 in long from pendant to back of neck (26 in total).
